LOGO & IDENTITY
As my brand is based on the premise of a compromise between ease and convenience to achieve a healthier meal, I need to consider these elements through my branding and identity. Products such as Hello Fresh take on the natural look through their packaging and identity - utilising a brown cardboard box for this natural look, and accompanied by white and green as their brand colours, they manage to convey this well. Also in their identity, they encompass the "home cooked" aspect using hand drawn type across their boxes and inner content. My brand will be named "fresh fix" to signify that the meals will be fresh.
BOX
As determined during research into existing packaging, I want my packaging to consist of a cardboard box and accompanying sleeve. The sleeve will wrap around the box, which as well as carry all the information and graphic elements, will also act as another security element, which will stop the box from opening.
In my sketches I experimented with basic layouts as well as the shape and orientation of the sleeve. Whilst the horizontal sleeve looks interesting and the layout would be great to play with, the vertical sleeve provides extra security as well as more room to experiment and layout.
INNER ELEMENTS
Packets
The ingredients within the box will require packaging to proportion and separate them as well as keep them as fresh for as long as possible. Packet contents range from grains, pulses, sauces, fresh vegetables, spices.
Initially, I began to design a sauce packet as an example of this inner packaging. I initially considered designing straight onto the material of the packet but this would mean designing a different packet for each ingredient/sauce. Instead I chose the concept of plain packets to enclose all ingredients, and differentiate these by having stickers on stating the type of sauce for the meal as well as the amount, so 50ml for example.
Having these stickers instead of individual packaging will cut costs as wholesale packets can be used instead of printing the packets individually. Bearing in mind the meal will have a lower price point as opposed to other meals of its type, this will be a good way to cut costs and also save time in the production process.
