Study Task 5: Contextual research/ Target Audience (gender): Beauty Boys

"We truly live in an era in which the internet can help us in any aspect of our lives. Not only do we get to learn from these male beauty vloggers, but we can help support and celebrate the men who aren't ashamed to embrace and share what they love."

"Beauty boys" are the new biggest trend in the make up world. Platforms such as Youtube and Instagram have allowed men to express themselves using make up and many have taken advantage of this - some of the best and most famous beauty vloggers are in fact male. They are not just being accepted into the mainstream beauty world. They are helping to give the cosmetics industry a much-needed modern makeover.

Youtube

Wayne Goss
Professional make up artist
Does not class himself as a beauty boy, but still hugely popular for his make up tutorials and reviews on Youtube.

Jeffree Star
Identifies as a gay male, but bends gender expectations with his looks
One of the most famous beauty vloggers
Androgyny is his forte
Has own successful make up line

Patrick Starrr
NYX have used him as a posterboy in one of their new campaigns

Manny MUA
Built a huge following on Youtube
Maybelline are now using as their poster boy

Instagram

Bretman Rock
Flamboyant and out there
huge instagram following due to his amazing make up and funny videos

Thomas Halbert

James Charles
CoverGirls first male CoverBoy

All these personalities have made a solid name for themselves in the make up world and are proof that times have changed and gender no longer plays a big role in marketing. I want to be able to rebrand Morphe as a genderless make up range - attractive to all genders.
