Following my crit I decided to focus more on a social media campaign. Considering my research on social media (Youtube and Instagram) this seemed appropriate so I began to create an Instagram campaign for Subvert.
Since my brand is a new brand not an existing client I need to launch it - a social media campaign is perfect. My plan was to create a series of posts that I could tease the brand and introduce it to the world.
For my first post I wanted some sort of a teaser for my brand.
My initial experiments for this post includes the tag line I created for my brand 'make up has no gender' as well as the logo - however through the development process I decided I didn't need the logo included in the post. As the post is intended as a kind of teaser, as well as the fact the image will be posted on the brand's Instagram page - the brand name/logo isn't actually needed. I stuck to the same colour palette and typeface to give consistency to my brand - and I liked the look of repetition of the tagline. It is bold and makes a statement by reinforcing the idea again and again. Using the same idea as my packaging, by using black as well as white for the same line of text makes the word gender stand out - which works well for the premise behind my brand.

For my second post I wanted an image of a person to endorse the brand - to create brand recognition and the reputation as a brand that can be trusted. I chose Bretman Rock, NikkieTutorials and Laverne Cox to represent the brand - celebrities that don't already have a make up line and to create as much diversity as possible.
Bretman is a Filipino young male, Nikkie is a white female (who is confident and known for her body positivity, she embraces her fuller figure) and Laverne Cox, a black transgender woman. This range of people promotes my idea of acceptance and diversity behind my brand.
I chose to place the logo on these pictures - giving people more of a clue as to the actual brand - building up to a post containing information about the actual products. I made the logo white and placed the picture onto a background of the same sage green I've been using throughout my project - to make the post belong to the same series.
My final post in the series needed to contain more information about the products instead of just teasers. I needed to actually put across what my brand was about with a more detailed description as well as the brand slogan and logo. I also needed a picture of a product to show what my brand actually sells. After experimenting with layout and type I settled on the bottom right layout - and kept the theme of different coloured type running making the description different colours.
I felt the product looked a bit out of place so I decided to add a backdrop of misaligned black and white rectangles which pulled the whole design together. I felt this added the piece the design was missing and tied it in with the first teaser post especially as the design is very linear and monochrome.
Below are my final posts for my Instagram campaign. The celebrity photo can be swapped out for any of the celebrities - the same can be done to promote products in the make up range - for example mascara, concealer etc.
I am happy with my Instagram campaign as I think the posts tie in well with my packaging, creating a consistent brand. In comparison to my original advertising ideas I think an Instagram campaign works better as it reaches more of the audience I was hoping for, and reflects the research I had done earlier on the effect of social media on make up.
