In my crit I got feedback saying that while the idea behind my symbol worked it also needed a main type element - I could portray the theme of subversion in other ways rather than using a a symbol instead of a logotype.

Using Futura as my basis for the logo I began to experiment with the placement of the letters. I liked that I was still breaking rules by placing the letters on different lines - only the rules I was breaking were grammar and language rules rather than gender.
As well as this I experimented by rotating and inverting letters - using the V initially, then using the 'B' and 'R' as they have similar shapes to them.
I decided that Futura was not working as a typeface as the letters were not all of even heights so looked a bit uneven. I decided to change my typeface to Bebas Neue- which looked better immediately. The letters were more compact, more even and looked bolder overall - a look I wanted to get across.
I repeated the idea of reflecting letters backward and it worked really well in this typeface. I also tried to combine my original logo with the type however decided that the type worked better on its own.
I split up the word into two layers with the B on top of the R - the similar shapes of the letters helped to make this look good. I experimented with joining the letters together by extending their stem, but this looked weird so I decided instead to combine the layered look with the reflected letters, as both ideas worked separately. The combination of the 2 ideas worked well but there was still something off about the logo.
The letters were all quite linear and straight but the T had angled terminals and the leg of the R curled too much (seen below). I altered this to make the terminals end vertically and the leg of the R to look straighter so the overall appearance of the type was more consistent.
My finished logo.
